The Biology Department of Nazareth College of Rochester, New York, invites applications for an Assistant Professor position to begin August 2020. The department seeks candidates committed to undergraduate teaching excellence at a comprehensive institution that supports both liberal arts curricula and professional programs. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Plant biology or related field and demonstrated experience educating diverse populations of students. Candidates will develop a strong research program involving undergraduate students that includes possible participation in summer research activities.

The successful candidate is expected to teach Plant Biology (BIO 216/216L) and Biological Systems I, II, and/or III (BIO.Q 103/103L, BIO 104/104L, and BIO105, respectively), as well as general education courses for non-majors. This position entails responsibilities and opportunities in three programs: Biology, Environmental Science and Sustainability, and Toxicology. The candidate will be expected to manage the Mary Soons McCarty greenhouse, a three-environment greenhouse – temperate, desert, and sub-tropical – that is used for education and research. Ability to teach microbiology courses is a plus.

Ph.D. in Plant biology or related field required. 

The Nazareth College Department of Biology is located in Peckham Hall, a 74,000 square foot facility for integrated math and science that was recently ranked 20th for Best Science Lab Facilities by the Princeton Review. Peckham Hall features state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities in addition to various updated instrumentation available for both research and teaching usage.Review of completed applications will begin on September 1, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.
