Job Summary

The Director of Digital Marketing is responsible for the day-to-day management and advancement of Miami University’s digital marketing strategies. Providing both strategic thinking and tactical implementation, this position effectively marries creativity with science, leveraging existing and emerging technologies to support institutional priorities. Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications and in collaboration with the Vice President and Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, the Director of Digital Marketing develops, implements, tracks, and optimizes digital marketing campaigns, including paid search and display advertising, across all digital channels. This position also oversees the University’s primary social media accounts, social media policies, and social media content planning and supervises the Social Media Manager. The Director of Digital Marketing works closely with the creative services and project management teams within University Communications & Marketing (UCM) and supports all campus partners in achieving their objectives with a particular focus on student recruitment.

Job Duties

  • Design, implement, optimize, and manage digital marketing plans that utilize data and analytics to measure and enhance performance and results.
  • Develop and maintain a robust social media strategy, which includes a content plan that optimizes audience engagement, growth, and click throughs.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of University goals and marketing objectives and work to support achieving them with creative and effective digital tactics.
  • Work independently and with the UCM staff to create digital content (stories, photos, video, etc.) that amplifies brand messaging.
  • Create, manage, and track digital advertising campaigns and optimize as needed to ensure demonstrable and sufficient return on investment.
  • Conduct A/B testing, competitive research, and demographic research using relevant digital marketing platforms.
  • Lead the University’s Communicators Forum Social Media Subgroup and work to create synergy across all University social media accounts.
  • Work collaboratively with UCM’s Brand & Marketing Analyst to create, update, and distribute monthly, annual, and on-demand reports and data analysis of campaigns across digital marketing platforms.
  • Create, optimize, and disseminate e-newsletters and digital communications and drive audience engagement growth.
  • Champion digital marketing best practices, opportunities, technologies, and methods to internal clients.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of progressive responsibility creating, implementing, and managing highly targeted and effective digital marketing plans.
  • Demonstrated success planning, buying, optimizing, and tracking digital advertising campaigns, including PPC, retargeted, IP-targeted, and social media advertising.
  • Significant experience managing social media accounts and planning appropriately balanced content that engages, informs, and drives growth.
  • Comfort with website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, organizational, and project/time management skills.
  • Highly creative problem-solving abilities and excellent attention to detail.
