Academic Coordinator/Lecturer in the Composition Program
Description
The Department of English invites applications for the position of Academic Coordinator in the Composition Program. This position comprises a 50% appointment as Academic Coordinator and up to 50% teaching appointment as Lecturer. The Initial two-year appointment begins in the 2019-2020 academic year on July 1, 2019 and ending on June 30, 2021. The position is renewable pending review for another two-year cycle. The Academic Coordinator reports to the Co-Directors of Composition, and the administrative duties of the position include but are not limited to working collaboratively with the Directors, Academic Coordinators, and administrative staff to manage the operational and communicative functions of the Program; to develop, implement, and assess curricula; and to train, supervise, and evaluate the Program's Lecturers and its graduate student teachers. This position attends to the first of the Program's two required courses, WR 39B Critical Reading & Rhetoric, and carries the working title of Writing 39B Course Director. The Academic Coordinator is also expected to engage in professional development and programmatic activities that pertain to the administration and teaching of first-year composition and rhetoric. The annual salary as Academic Coordinator will be commensurate with experience within the range of the full-time salary rates between $56,386 and $67,881
Simultaneously, this Academic Coordinator is expected to hold a Lecturer position and should be prepared to teach the Program's three main courses: WR 39A, WR 39B, and WR 39C. The Annual salary as Lecturer will be commensurate with experience within the range of the full-time salary rates between $54,738 and $66,691. Recruitment for the Lecturer position is separate from the Academic Coordinator position in this advertisement, and any applicant for the Academic Coordinator position must apply separately for the Lecturer position if they have taught fewer than 18 quarters in UC Irvine's Composition Program. Qualifications: Ph.D. in English or related fields or M.F.A. degree. Degree in hand by June 30, 2019. We welcome applicants from all disciplines and expect three years of teaching experience in first-year composition, experience in writing program or writing center administration, familiarity with current trends in second language pedagogies and rhetorical studies, and facility with multi-modal and technology-driven composition instruction.
