Position Summary
Dominican University of California is seeking an individual for an Accounting Clerk position. A successful candidate will have strong strong communication and organizational skills. Under the general supervision of the Controller, the incumbent is responsible for reviewing and performing cashiering functions, performing various receptionist and general office duties; reviewing and analyzing student accounts; data entry for accounts payable and performing various accounting functions that include check requests, invoices, disbursements and other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that checks and cash are deposited daily.
  • The position is responsible for daily posting and deposits for student accounts and University department deposits.
  • Understanding student accounts as they relate to billing and collections.
  • Ensure that excellent customer service is provided to students, parents, faculty, staff and other internal or external customers.
  • Work within all internal control policies, specifically FERPA guidelines.
  • Ensure that all University, state, and federal laws are adhered to in the collection, receipting and management of cash collections.
  • Ensure daily cash receipt batches are prepared and input to the University's financial system in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate as an integral part of the registration process that involves coordination with other offices including Admissions, Registrar, Resident Services, Financial Aid and other appropriate offices.
  • Process vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, student refunds, petty cash and other disbursement requests accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Review monthly activity to ensure all procurement card receipt envelopes are received in a timely manner and audited.
  • Review all invoices and payment requests for accuracy, validity, and reasonableness. Ensure that all invoices have the required approvals and information such as sales tax, fixed assets and general ledger codes are accurate.
  • Maintain accurate accounts payable and vendor files.
  • Ensure compliance with all 1099 requirements.
  • Processing and Tracking registration and payments for IEN and Global Education programs
  • Creating, submitting and tracking invoices on behalf of students require third party billing.
  • Participate in Business Services staff meetings, including discussion of relevant policies and procedures, as well as planning and goal setting.
  • Actively seek and implement ways to improve, streamline and automate the current cashier service and accounting processes. Develop and implement solutions to problems of varying scope and complexity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of this position.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience in accounting or comparable experience, preferably at a higher education institution.
  • Must have knowledge of accounting software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure in a fast-paced and demanding environment, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
  • Works and collaborates well within a team environment.
  • Results oriented with strong attention to detail.
  • Provide a service-oriented approach to clients, both internal and external.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work overtime as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, financial, or related field.
  • Prior experience with Great Plains financial applications.
