Job Summary:

Job Function:

Responsible for ordering, processing, and tracking new library materials, maintaining records for library expenditures, maintaining the print and online periodical subscriptions, and assisting with public service functions.

Essential Job Functions:

    Participate in group and individual training in the use of the library management system and discovery service as well as the online databases.Place and track orders for library materials.Receive and verify purchases.Receive, track, and maintain print subscriptions.Maintain purchasing files and records.Process new library materials.Set up and maintain acquisitions records in Alma.Work with online resources in Alma and maintain access through Pete’s Portal.Maintain records of items removed from the collection.Provide basic public service to library users.Learn and maintain the back office of Pete’s Portal.Regularly review the library website for working links and current information.Mend library materials requiringbasic attention.Provide reports and compilestatistics related to library purchases. Administer assessment tools forcontinuous improvement of library services and materials.Complete all mandatory trainingand participate in a minimum of two professional development activities eachyear as well as additional online or live classes.Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Education:
HighSchool diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience:
One year of experience in accounting or bookkeeping or other office work requiring organizational and quantitative skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but notlimited to: office computers, fax machines, printers, scanners, Internet,Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Must be able to develop and maintain relationships with vendors
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to amulticultural environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all students,faculty, staff, and community partners; giving full attention to what othersare saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questionsas appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the Englishlanguage including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, andgrammar in order to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and effectively, bothverbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions, andrespond to inquiries appropriately
  • Accurate typing/data entry skills and demonstrated ability to work withattention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and also collaborate within a teamenvironment
  • Exhibit problem solving skills beyond a set of instructions and adaptto changes when necessary
  • Ability to make appropriate recommendations based on logical andjustifiable reasoning
  • Passion forassisting students with educational endeavors and representing the OSU brandwith positivity and professionalism
  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous library work experience
  • Knowledge in the use of library management systems (preferably, Alma) for work in the acquisitions portion
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how digital resources work
Working Conditions:

Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends in an often times busy and noisy environment Work will be performed in an office environment with a significant amount of public contact in person, by telephone, and via emailPosition requires repetitive desk to counter mobility Typical library environment – various working areas may be dusty

Physical Requirements:

Ability to transport books and copier paper Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening and computer usage
