POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for adjunct faculty who can create academically rich learning experiences for candidates seeking a teaching credential. The Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood with a Multiple Subject or Dual Credential (Multiple Subject and Education Specialist combined) program provides qualified candidates with a foundation for educating and developing positive and inclusive learning environments for young children from kindergarten through third grade. At the post baccalaureate level, candidates can earn their Master’s degree with a Preliminary Multiple Subject or Preliminary Education Specialist Credential or choose to complete a standalone credential.

The Pacific Oaks curriculum is based on a constructive framework that is responsive to multiple sources of diversity in early childhood education. As actively engaged participants, candidates in this program learn about essential principles and theories of pedagogy and child development, and engage in supervised learning experiences to integrate and apply their knowledge. Learning experiences throughout the curriculum are characterized by inquiry, self‐ reflection, collaboration with others, and problem‐solving. • Learning Theories and the Social, Political, and Economic Factors that have Influenced Education
• The Art of Teaching Science: Inspiring Curiosity, Analytic Thinking, and Scientific Inquiry
• Integrated Thematic Instruction: Methods of Teaching Social Science and Visual/Performing Arts
• Contemporary Methods of Teaching Math
• Utilizing and Infusing Technology into Teaching
• Communication and Collaboration Skills for Special Educators
• Instructing Students with Mild/Moderate Disabilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Grade and provide feedback on all assignments within 5 days of the due date
• Facilitate and participate in the weekly discussion postings
• Actively respond to student emails and requests within 24-48 hours
• Prepare and update course prior to the course start
• Provide weekly announcements and overviews for each week of the course
• Identify and refer at-risk students to academic support services
• Participate in Adjunct training, meetings, events and other College requirements
• Post final grades by the College deadline

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Contribute to the course content using current events, current research articles, videos and other materials
• Careful assessment of candidate assignments and providing timely feedback
• Collaboration with colleagues on course curriculum and teaching methodologies to cultivate critical thinking and reflective practice in the learning environment
• Ability to utilize various instructional strategies to foster an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population
• Keep current on scholarship, research, and “best practices” in the discipline in which the instructor is assigned to teach
• Knowledge in trauma and crisis intervention
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
• Communicate effectively using Canvas Pacific Oaks College’s learning management system
• Commitment to support the mission of Pacific Oaks College
• Proficiency in common internet tools: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

• PhD or EdD degree preferred
• Master’s degree and a Multiple Subject or Education Specialist credential (required)
• Publications, presentations, and research in early childhood education (preferred)
• Familiar with andragogy; adult learning theory
• Certification in counseling, trauma, or grief response or STEAM is desirable
• CV and cover letter
• 2 recent letters of recommendation (within the last 1-2 years)
• Highest degree unofficial transcripts (official transcripts will be required upon hiring)

Typical Working Conditions: Classroom or Online. All SOE ground courses are hybrid, 30 hours face-to-face and 15 hours online.
