To provide point­-of-­use instruction at library reference desks, and research and information services to students, faculty and staff.

1. The Hourly Instruction Librarian (HIL) position is a Service-Learning Apprentice program.2. Extensive paid pedagogy training is provided and HILs gain valuable classroom instruction experience.3. Hourly Instruction Librarians also provide information literacy and library instruction services to students in a classroom setting using ACC LS created content.
4. Hourly Librarian schedules are determined and may vary weekly but may not exceed more than 19 hours/week district-wide.Description of Duties and TasksEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides ACC Campus Library Services reference & instructional services to ACC students, faculty and staff, including in­ person, phone, email and library chat.

  • Works with other ACC Library Services and primary campus library faculty and staff, maintaining records and statistical data and, as assigned, collection maintenance, subject bibliography, information literacy support, web or wiki page maintenance, special projects, and reports.
  • Participates in critical recordkeeping practices including using reference desk software designed to gather student learning outcome data.

    Delivery of instructive reference services, information literacy instruction and library instruction, and design of information literacy curriculum, and the ability to demonstrate sensitivity to, and knowledge of, a diverse student body in an adult learning environment.KnowledgeMust possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    Knowledge of best practices in customer service skills. Library principles and practices in an academic setting.SkillsMust possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    Ability to maintain established work schedule. Ability to maintain confidentiality of constituent information. Ability to establish and maintain effective, collegial workplace relationships. Ability to communicate orally, in writing and electronically, in a concise and effective manner.Technology Skills

    Proficiency in using PCs, office productivity software, knowledge of electronic information resources, the Internet and wikis, laptops, iPads, and e­readers.

    Expertise with print and electronic information and reference resources in an academic environment.Required Work Experience

    Reliable transportation may be required for teaching at multiple campus locations. Employees moving among campuses may get reimbursed for travel.Physical Requirements

    Work is routinely performed in an office environment. Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling. Occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.Safety

  • ACC Benefits OverviewFull-time Faculty and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment.
