Part-Time Teaching Faculty Job Description

The responsibilities of part-time dental hygiene teaching faculty are:

Teaching

1. Provide didactic, clinical, and/or lab instruction in the Dental Hygiene Associate program. May include nights. Course assignments are at the discretion of the Program Director.

2. Meeting all classes at the time, place and length of time designated

3. Teaching courses as assigned which correlate with the catalog descriptions and course outlines in a manner designed to assist the student to achieve the specific objectives of the course.

4. Attend faculty development in-services and program review which may include nights and weekends.

5. Support the goals, missions, and core values of the dental hygiene program by building good relations through clear communication with the director, faculty, and students.

Student Evaluation

1. Periodically examining and information each student of his/her progress toward achieving the course's objectives.

3. Preparing and administering examinations, which measure the student's attainment of the course's objectives.

4. Preparing and administering at the prescribed time, a final examination that appropriately measures the student's attainment of the course's objectives.

5. Assigning grades to students.

Part-time instructors are not specifically evaluated on Professional Development or Service to the College or Community. However, CSN encourages part-time instructors to continue to develop their skills, further their education and contribute to the College and Community through service activities. Therefore, space will be provided on the evaluation form where, as an option, the evaluator can list various activities in which the part-time instructor has been engaged during the evaluation period which contributes to either professional development or College/Community service.

Salary is paid at the following rates

$825 per Instructional Unit for Lecture Classes

$41.25 per hour of Lab or Clinical Instruction

Minimum Qualifications

1. Graduate of a Dental Hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

2. Provide evidence of an active Dental Hygiene license with local anesthesia and nitrous oxide permits or evidence of eligibility for a Nevada Dental Hygiene Limited License with local anesthesia and nitrous oxide permits. Please refer to NRS & NAC 631 for eligibility requirements.

3. Provide evidence of a current CPR Health Provider Certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree from a regionally accredited College or University.

2. Master's Degree in either Dental Hygiene, Education, Higher Education, Public Health, or equivalent degree in a health-related profession from a regionally accredited College or University.

3. 5 years of full-time equivalent clinical experience practicing Dental Hygiene.

4. Prior didactic and clinical teaching experience in a Dental Hygiene program.

5. Membership in the American Dental Hygienists' Association as well as Nevada's state and local component Dental Hygiene Associations and encouragement of participation in the student chapter of the American Dental Hygienists' Association.

6. Experience teaching and/or working with diverse student and staff populations.

Salary Range

$875.00 Per Instructional Unit

Should a candidate be selected for a part-time instructor position, no minimum course load is guaranteed and teaching assignments, if any, are contingent upon various factors, including but not limited to, minimum student enrollment and/or department need. No reimbursement for travel expenses will be provided to local or out of area/out of state candidates and there is no guarantee of continued or future part-time and/or full-time employment.
