Eastern Washington University seeks to fill one Operations Manager position now.

We have immediate openings for an Operations Manager for the following department:

  • Physical Therapy located on our Spokane campus and
  • Computer Science located on our Cheney campus (no longer accepting applications),

Desired start date is September 2, 2019 (or as negotiated).

In general, Operations Managers report to the Department Chair and work independently within administrative guidelines to manage departmental resources and ongoing office, instructional, research, and co-curricular activities. Primary responsibilities include management of budget, resources, and office personnel; oversight of administrative operations; and planning, administering, and implementing administrative actions and decisions in support of department operations and the Chair.

Other key position responsibilities include: work cooperatively with faculty, staff, university administrators; analyze problems and provide the Chair with information, counsel, and reports of actions taken; act as liaison between the Chair and other personnel including, but not limited to, those in the Dean's office, Academic Affairs, Office of Grants and Research Development (OGRD), and EWU Foundation; initiate and complete special assignments as needed; and staff supervision as delegated.

Conditions of Employment

  • Position may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends to support departmental and college events and/or fulfill other responsibilities of the position.
  • During the course of university employment, this position will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as unsupervised interactions with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults, and children under the age of 16. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check.



Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in management, business administration, or in another field with direct relevancy to the position responsibilities and/or department
  • At least six (6) years senior level administrative work experience; experience must demonstrate the characteristics and/or abilities in all of the following areas:
    • Work is beyond entry level tasks, and which is characterized by complexity, overlapping deadlines, and independent responsibility for outcomes
    • Communicate clearly and accurately, verbally and in writing, with a broad range of individuals at different levels of a large, complex organization;
    • Effectively manage and track details of projects, priorities and deadlines;
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills;
    • Effectively work both independently and as a member of a team;
    • Handle projects independently, with absolute confidentiality and sensitivity to policies and procedures;
    • Provide administrative support, initiate and coordinate a variety of activities and follow up on related details;
    • Proven attention to detail and accuracy, ability to multi-task and manage deadlines;
    • Successful coordination of events, travel arrangements, and meetings (Computer Science only);
    • Effective supervision of staff (Computer Science only)
  • At least three (3) years of experience with budgetary functions to include: management and reconciliation, reporting, forecasting, and analysis
  • Advanced skills in computer technology and software, including all of the following:
    • MS Office Suite to include advance skills/experience using Excel
    • Enterprise data systems
    • Capable of managing and updating Program website, applications, and social networking tools as needed;
  • Analytical skills to define problems, research and analyze relevant information, assess alternative solutions, and recommend or pursue appropriate course of action.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree;
  • Four (4) or more years full time work experience in a college or university academic program;
  • Working knowledge of faculty affairs and human resources administration;
  • Supervisory experience
