Our Strengths

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Equity, Innovation and Institutional Effectiveness (AVPE), the Director of Research and Equity manages institutional research in support of planning, reporting, assessment, and other institutional requirements. The Director also leads and coordinates research-based efforts designed to close academic achievement gaps among various student groups. The Director plans and coordinates the college research agenda with the district agenda; assures the dissemination of research results to support college planning and overall institutional effectiveness.

The Director of Research and Equity is responsible for providing usable management information to key constituents in support of data informed planning and decision-making; and oversees the college’s research office.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Preparing unit plans and annual reports in areas of primary responsibility.
● Coordinating and leading the implementation of research-based practices designed to eliminate equity gaps.
● Leading the assessment and evaluation of programs and services through equity lens.
● Providing information to faculty, staff, and administrators on how to interpret data with emphasis on identifying equity gaps.
● Coordinating professional development efforts aimed at eliminating equity gaps.
● Planning, organizing, directing, and implementing a comprehensive institutional planning process.
● Assuring that the college planning process is coordinated with the district planning process and complies with accreditation standards.
● Overseeing the annual and strategic planning and assessment processes to implement an institution-wide cycle of assessment and planning throughout the college that results in continuous improvement.
● Planning and coordinating an institutional research program to assure college effectiveness, coordinating the college research agenda with the district agenda, and assuring the dissemination of research results to support college planning grants and overall institutional effectiveness.
● Overseeing and coordinating the College Integrated Planning System (CIPS), including the automated planning system and Program Overview.
● Conducting required need assessments and evaluations.
● Performing duties in the administration and supervision of the research office.
● Providing support for the college’s accreditation process, assuring that the college is in compliance with accrediting guidelines and procedures, and planning and directing accreditation activities.
● Conducting special projects at the direction of the AVPE and College President.
● Maintaining information on college standing and participatory governance committees; working with the various constituencies to assure that appointments are consistent with college guidelines; disseminating information on committee guidelines and membership.
● Overseeing the design and dissemination of college-adopted accountability measures and assuring coordination of these measures with planning and accrediting activities.
● Preparing unit plans and annual reports in areas of primary responsibility.
● Organizing, attending, and/or chairing a variety of administrative and staff meetings as required.
● Promoting staff development and supporting a climate which fosters innovation and excellence.
● Assuming leadership and responsibility for staff evaluation and development.
● Supporting a climate which promotes cultural competence and mutual respect.
● Employing techniques such as interest-based conflict resolution and other appropriate strategies to resolve disputes and to enhance communication and cooperation among the members of the college and district communities.
● Supervising and evaluating assigned employees.
● Performing other duties as assigned.

The administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off campus work and/or hours.

1. Have a master’s degree* from an accredited institution completed by August 1, 2019.

2. Have one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
