Position: Assistant Professor of Public Administration
Starting Date: August, 2020
1) An earned Ph.D. or DPA in Public Administration, Political Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/20/2020).
2) Evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate level.
3) Evidence of experience teaching American government courses.
4) Documented research and scholarship in public administration in one or more of the following areas: third-sector and non-profit management; information technology, e-governance, m-governance; and/or public sector organizational communication.
1) Evidence of successful experience teaching Public Administration courses at the graduate level.
2) Evidence of successful teaching using high impact practices, including, but not limited to: writing intensive curriculum, collaborative assignments and projects, diversity exploration, and/or community-based learning.
3) Evidence of engaging students in scholarly activities
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
The successful candidate may be required to teach an introductory American government course, undergraduate upper division public administration courses, and graduate level public administration courses.

Salary: Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Political Science at Cal State LA consists of ten full time faculty with teaching and research interests in public administration, public law, American government, political theory, comparative politics and international relations. The department is one of 15 departments within the College of Natural and Social Sciences, which supports the academic programs for 6000 students and 660 instructional personnel. Faculty are active scholars, as well as innovative teachers, who participate in University governance and serve in numerous student advisory capacities. We have a very robust public administration program and congenial faculty who are strongly committed to a long-range strategic vision that links our urban focus with global issues and opportunities. Our highly regarded NASPAA-accredited MPA program, which serves Southern California, has become an important resource for government and nonprofit agencies seeking graduates with skills in all areas of public administration, including policy analysis, budgetary process and financial administration, human resource management, program and policy evaluation, and intergovernmental and intersectoral relations. In a given year, well over half of our 90+ MPA students are employed professionals seeking an MPA for purposes of advancement to managerial positions.
