Assistant Director of the Academic Resource Hub for Accessibility Services
The Assistant Director has primary responsibility for management of the day-to-day operation of Accessibility Services and works closely with the Accessibility Coordinator and other staff to effectively coordinate the overall provision of accommodations and services to students with disabilities including, but not limited to: exam proctoring, note-taking services, housing accommodations, alternative format materials, assistive devices, etc. The Assistant Director regularly consults with faculty and staff regarding college policies and procedures and actively works to enhance the inclusion of members of the Lafayette community that experience disability. The Assistant Director is expected to maintain knowledge of best practices and legal developments through regular attendance at conferences, meetings, and targeted trainings. Along with the Coordinator, the Assistant Director collaboratively establishes the vision and goals for Accessibility Services and assumes primary responsibility for the development of a comprehensive plan to assess student learning outcomes as well as departmental effectiveness, and ensures that departmental goals are achieved. The Assistant Director reviews disability documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and other relevant legislation. Through consultation with faculty and administration, the Assistant Director ensures appropriate implementation of student accommodations plans. This role will also assist in the provision of student case management and is responsible for monitoring the academic progress of students with disabilities including the provision of disability-related counseling, support, intervention, and referrals to a caseload of students. Finally, the Assistant Director is expected to assume a leadership role in the Academic Resource Hub and will be counted on to assist in the attainment of key Hub objectives.
Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite or equivalent. Familiarity with Maxient, Banner, WordPress, Cognos, Qualtrics helpful. Familiarity with commonly used adaptive technology platforms such as Dragon or Kurzweil is also preferred.
- Masters Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Educational Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling or related is preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in the provision of accommodations to students with disabilities, in a higher education environment.
- An ability to work capably under strict deadlines, pay close attention to detail and demonstrated experience in successfully addressing multiple priorities in a short timeframe.
- Evidence of effective interpersonal skills, clarity in communication and an ability to maintain professionalism when dealing with challenging situations is particularly important.
