3-Year Visiting Assistant Professor Position

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program [WGS] at Clark University seeks to fill a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor position starting August 2020. We anticipate this position to be annually renewed for up to three years. WGS is based in the Center for Race, Gender and Area Studies [CGRAS]. Candidates must have their PhD in hand by August 2020. 

The teaching load is five courses per academic year. The successful applicant will be expected to teach two core courses (Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies; Topics in Feminist Theory) as well as three additional courses, at least one of which will be in their area of interest/expertise. In addition, the candidate will be expected to advise WGS majors and help to administer the WGS program. Applicants must show commitment to working collaboratively with faculty from the other CGRAS programs and related departments (Africana Studies, Asian Studies, Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, Peace Studies). This position includes a small bursary for books/other materials. The holder of this position will be eligible for the Provost’s professional travel fund (currently $1,500/year).

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in women’s or gender studies, or another appropriate discipline. Successful candidates will show a strong record or evidence of promise for quality undergraduate teaching, advising, and mentoring. We are especially interested in qualified candidates whose research, teaching, and service reflect engagement with varied perspectives and constituencies, especially those from underserved and underrepresented groups. Individuals whose research, teaching, and/or service that focuses on marginalized and/or intersecting identities (e.g., social class, race, sexual orientation, gender) are especially encouraged to apply.
