The project is focused on differentiating surface from bulk composition of organic particles on a molecular basis using a variety of mass spectrometry techniques.

The ideal candidate will have laboratory experience with gases and particles in flow and static systems, a variety of mass spectrometry techniques and particle sizing instruments, and preparation of high-quality peer reviewed publications. A Ph.D. in chemistry is required, ideally with a strong background in mass spectrometry and atmospheric science, good English skills (oral and writing), and an excellent publication record. Candidates should have the ability to both move the project forward aggressively as well as support and collaborate with other students and postdoctoral researchers in the research group as a whole.

The project PI is Dr. Lisa Wingen and Co-PI is Professor Barbara Finlayson-Pitts. The Finlayson-Pitts group is also part of AirUCI, an Organized Research Unit at UC Irvine. AirUCI is a multidisciplinary environmental research team dedicated to understanding and solving issues related to air pollution, climate change, water quality, and green technology and their effects on human health and well-being. AirUCI maintains shared equipment and has open multi-laboratory collaborations, both of which offer diverse and unique research solutions in addition to the capabilities within the individual laboratories.

The position is initially for one-year, effective January 2020 with the possibility of extension for a second year.
