The mission of the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity & Affirmative Action is to promote a deep understanding and appreciation among the diverse members of the University community to result in justice and equality in educational, employment and contracting opportunities, as well as to lead efforts to create an inclusive academic and work environment. The Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity & Affirmative Action supports the University's mission.

The Associate Vice President, Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Compliance will manage the day-to-day work of the renamed Office of Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Compliance (currently named IDEAA). Duties include but are not limited to:

Equal Opportunity and Compliance
  • Oversee and manage the work of the office to ensure compliance with non-discrimination and equal opportunity policies and laws, including: investigations and climate assessments; mediation; data collection; compliance reports; requests for accommodation based on disability, religion or pregnancy; bias reporting; policy development.
  • Provide overall responsibility for all investigations with employee respondents, including development and implementation of policies and processes to ensure that investigations are conducted in a timely, thorough, equitable, and consistent manner.
  • Oversee the work of the Title IX coordinator and deputy Title IX coordinators on both employee and student Title IX issues.
  • Work with leadership to identify when climate assessments are needed and to then oversee the climate assessment process.

Affirmative Action and Training
  • Oversee the collection of data and development of Georgetown's annual Affirmative Action Plan (AAP), and work with the VP for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and CDO to determine the affirmative action goals of the institution and craft appropriate and responsive strategies
  • Use aggregate metrics and/or data gathered by the office to raise awareness about and correct campus-wide harassment and discrimination issues.
  • Conduct university-wide training on non-discrimination policies and processes, how to identify issues that ought to be reported, and how to raise/report those issues.
  • Conduct listening tours to identify ongoing training needs for the community
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor degree from ABA accredited law school, preferred
  • Fifteen years of related experience, preferred
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of federal and state employment/labor laws
  • Demonstrated experience of at least eight years conducting discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other governmental/internal investigations
  • Experience with supervising staff, conflict resolution/mediation and compliance training facilitation
  • Established commitment to hiring and retaining diverse staff, and ability to work in a culturally diverse environment with successful interaction with culturally diverse individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Evidence of excellent written and oral communication and human relations/interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Must have a strong focus on attention to detail and accuracy
  • Possess strong organizational skills to manage office and effectively prioritize and achieve deadlines on multiple projects
  • Demonstrate strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
