The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education. All tenure-track candidates are expected to have a demonstrated interest in liberal arts and sciences education, contribute effectively to undergraduate teaching, assist in curriculum development, provide service to the department and College, as well as be active in scholarly, creative, and/or research productivity appropriate to a liberal arts environment.

Position Summary

Spelman College’s Department of English is searching for an assistant or associate professor of African American literature with a specialization in one or more of the following secondary areas: Afrofuturism
/speculative fiction, digital humanities, gender and sexualities studies, transatlantic studies, and/or African diasporic studies. Responsibilities include teaching a 3-3 load in the English major, minor, and general education core. Active department and college-level service is expected.

Qualifications

PhD in relevant field required; College-level teaching experience required. ; Specialization in one or more of the secondary areas
