The College of Arts, Letters, and Education invites applications for a full time Lecturer position in the Department of Music to begin mid-September 2019.

This position will serve as a Lecturer in Music Technology and Audio Engineering to support a new multi-disciplinary degree: BA in Music Technology and Entrepreneurship.

The Department of Music offers NASM accredited programs and prepares students for professional careers and graduate studies. The faculty have a strong commitment to students, collegiality, quality in teaching and advising, as well as consistent scholarly and artistic output.

The responsibilities for this position including teaching (80% of workload, or 36 credits), plus 20% release time (9 credits equivalent) to perform administrative duties for the Department of Music. The position requires expertise in audio engineering, including sound reinforcement for concerts with live audio needs, and audio recording of concerts.

Position will teach courses in multi-track recording, mastering, 3D audio, sound editing and mixing with Pro Tools software and other courses as needed. Note: The department reserves the right to change the courses based on departmental needs and student enrollment. Teaching assignments may include evening classes.

Faculty responsibilities may include developing curriculum leading to creation of certificate programs in Audio Engineering and/or other non-performance professional fields; and supervising student internships focused on audio engineering studies and activities. Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.

Administrative duties include:

—Evaluating special requests from faculty, visiting artists, and students and determine most appropriate solutions to meet the requests.
—Coordinate student staffing for concerts and events in the recital hall.
—Record keeping for student concert attendance requirements for MUSC 110.
—Record keeping for the portion of the department's budget allocated to technology and equipment related to audio engineering and recording, and the recital hall facility and its maintenance.
—Supervising non-intern student employees, hourly employees, plus graduate student assistants.
—Assist in the upgrade and maintenance of recording and editing technology in the music building
—Assist with the design of a new Music & Media Lab.

Candidates are also expected to be active scholars and/or music artists and to provide service to the Department, College, University and community.

Conditions of Employment

The required start date for this position is 09/16/2019. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 09/16/2019.

The person hired for this position will receive a one-year contract for academic year 2019-2020.

Required Qualifications:
  • Masters in Music Technology, or closely related graduate degree in Audio Engineering
    • Candidates may be considered who offer a Bachelor's in a relevant discipline plus significant professional experience performing related duties
  • Requires expertise in audio engineering, including sound reinforcement for concerts, audio recording of concerts as demonstrated by a record of coursework, teaching experience, publications, and/or relevant professional experience
  • Two or more years' experience using specialized Pro Tools software (or equivalent) for editing of audio files with multitrack recording
  • Supervising/teaching students engaged in audio engineering, stage management and/or related activities
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.


Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who offer one of more of the following preferred qualifications:
