The Department of History at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in public history and oral history.

We seek a scholar who is grounded in practical, theoretical, and methodological approaches to oral history. The position is a part of a thriving public history program concentration in the master’s degree in history.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in oral history that engage students in its various methods, techniques and uses and to create undergraduate and graduate courses in public history and their field of specialization. Area of research specialization is open. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the continuing development and success of the public history program. Participation in departmental programs, service, and governance is expected.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in history or related fields is required by time of appointment.

Demonstrable experience related to the practice or teaching of oral history.

Candidates should demonstrate an active research agenda complementing the existing strengths of the department.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be accorded candidates with a) record of project design or implementation; b) collaboration or partnerships; c) engagement with communities and public audiences; and/or d) teaching experience in oral history.
