Director of Clinical Education – Respiratory Care Faculty

SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the faculty position of Director of Clinical Education –Respiratory Care Instructor commencing the 2019-2020 academic year. Reporting to the Respiratory Care Program Director, the Director of Clinical Education is responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for students enrolled in the Respiratory Care AAS Program. The Director of Clinical Education is further expected to pursue ongoing, formal training designed to maintain and upgrade his/her professional, instructional and administrative capabilities. This is a full-time faculty position that requires the Director of Clinical Education to work at least thirty (30) days during the summer, every year, throughout his/her employment.

SUNY Sullivan faculty has the primary responsibility of teaching and assessing student learning. Faculty duties include teaching, advising, working toward continuous improvement to pedagogy and discipline specific content, and service to the College through shared governance and sharing one’s expertise in Sullivan County. A Faculty member reports to the chair or dean of the academic division to which the individual faculty member is assigned. The incumbent is a member of the Professional Staff Association. This is a tenure track appointment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An earned baccalaureate degree
  • New York State Licensure as a respiratory therapist or eligibility
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Minimum of four (4) years experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, of which at least two (2) years should have been spent in clinical respiratory care and at least two (2) years in a teaching position in an accredited respiratory care program
  • Familiarity with instructional technology desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as necessary for working with diverse groups of people with varying backgrounds. Must communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, administrators and parents.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Arrange and negotiate all site contracts for clinical placement of students.
  • Schedule and supervise all off-campus clinical courses, placements and adjuncts.
  • Assess student learning outcomes in all clinical courses on a regular basis.
  • Work with the Program Director, the program’s Advisory Committee and Medical Director to assure the professional integrity and relevance of clinical courses within the curriculum.
  • Conducts weekly site visits to clinical affiliates.
  • Assist with program curriculum development and revisions.
  • Teach courses in the program.
  • Advise Respiratory Care students.
  • Other appropriate activities as assigned by the Program Director or Chair of the Division of Health Sciences

The hiring range for this position is commensurate with faculty rank and experience up to a maximum salary of $56,440, plus an annual stipend and the opportunity for overload pay.
