Dean, David L. Boren College of International Studies and Associate Provost for International Programs, the University of Oklahoma

Created in 2011, the David L. Boren College of International Studies is dedicated to advancing international education opportunities for all OU students and to enhancing the experience of international students attending the University of Oklahoma. The College houses the Office of Education Abroad, the Office of International Student Services, and the OU in Arezzo, Italy, and OU in Puebla, Mexico Study Centers. The College’s dynamic academic unit, the Department of International and Area Studies, is an established center for Middle Eastern Studies and has emerging strength in International Security Studies. 

As the chief academic officer of the College, the Dean reports directly to the Senior Vice President and Provost of the University and is responsible for defining the College’s strategic priorities and securing resources to deliver these priorities, delivering educational programs and research of the highest quality, and attracting outstanding students. As a key member of the  University’s leadership team, the Dean must be an internal advocate for the College within the University of Oklahoma and have the ability to work across disciplinary and college boundaries as well as the ability to successfully network with alumni and the broader community to raise funds, serving as both an outward-facing representative of the College and an internal mentor and team builder.

The Dean of International Studies also serves as Associate Provost for International Programs, playing a pivotal role in advancing the global orientation of the University as well as advancing academic excellence in International and Area Studies.

Qualifications

• Record of effective, visionary leadership and sound fiscal management at the Chair-, Director-, or higher level.
• Record of excellence in teaching, scholarly or creative activity, and service requisite with an appointment at the professor level in International and Area Studies.
• Demonstrated skills and record of achievement as a communicator, planner, collaborator, manager, and global communicator.
• Demonstrated experience with international initiatives.
• Demonstrated commitment to shared governance.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and to global understanding.
• Doctorate or other terminal research degree.
