Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising Operations and Resources, this incumbent will provide undergraduate students access and holistic academic advising services toward successful completion of their educational goals. The Undergraduate Student Advising Specialist supports University- level goals by partnering with faculty and professional staff advisors to enhance the quality of student transactional advising, supporting degree completion, and enhancing the student life experience toward lifelong University engagement. In addition, this incumbent supports University efforts in student recruitment and admissions activities by conferring with prospective students and families, and promoting Clarkson and related programs of study.

Position Responsibilities:

Undergraduate Student Advisement:

  • Support academic advisement culture of accessible advising and provide equitable academic advising resources and services throughout the Clarkson community among students, families, faculty, and staff
  • Coordinate and implement programming related to Undergraduate Academic Advising
  • Meet with students for development of their personal educational goals and advise implementation of their individual academic plans
  • Provide academic advisement services to diverse case load of students from across the University driven by need assessment
  • Support knowledge-based University services linking degree completion, student life, and lifelong engagement to student advisement
  • Support advisement operations in compliance with University Academic Policies, Operations Manual, Student Regulations and Undergraduate University Catalogs
  • Liaise with academic advising units across campus creating a holistic, supportive, and networking advisement model for student success and retention
  • Collaborate in teams, in the development of programming toward University goals and strategic initiatives related to undergraduate academic advisement
  • Confer with prospective students and families to promote Clarkson and related programs of study by supporting University efforts in student recruitment and admissions activities such as Open House Events
  • Utilize technology to facilitate advising related communication, increase efficiencies, improve services, and produce data for assessment and continuous improvement driven initiatives
  • Assist with related Academic and Student Affairs related special projects as assigned
  • Support the Director in events such as Open House, Orientation (new students, parents, and new employees)
  • Other related duties as assigned

Attendance:
Individuals in this position are expected to be available during the normal business hours of the college, and occasional evenings and weekends for special presentations and events.

Minimal education qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, education or related field.

Minimal experience:

  • One to three years of academic advising, registrar, and/or curricular related professional experience with progressive student interaction.
