Wells College seeks qualified applicants for the position of Resident Hall Director.  Reporting to the Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct, this individual has primary responsibility for the Resident Advisors and a comprehensive residential program which supports the mission, values and goals of Wells College.

The role of Residence Life at a small, residential, liberal arts College is to complement the academic goals of the institution as well as the academic goals of individual students. Wells College offers individualized attention and care for our students, accomplished in part through living-learning communities that focus on holistically supporting autonomy, competence, inclusivity and engagement.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The Resident Advisors Program:

  • Directly supervise student Resident Advisors (RA’s)
  • Recruit, hire, and train Resident Advisors under the supervision of the Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct.

Community Development & Support:

  • Develop a meaningful, measureable residential learning program focused on student success and retention
  • Create programming opportunities to build engagement among students
  • Oversee processes for the repair of damages to individual rooms or common areas
  • Advise first year and sophomore class officers and class committees

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate RA staffing and duty schedule
  • Act as a conduct hearing officer and participate in administrative conduct meetings
  • On-going policy review and revision in collaboration with Student Affairs staff, the Dean of Students, and Campus Safety & Security
  • Be present on-site at designated “high risk” campus events, such as dances and senior week
  • Participate in a professional staff on-call rotation, acting as a responder when necessary
  • Serve as a Title IX first responder when on duty and as Investigator when assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in a related field preferred
  • Previous experience in Residence Life or Student Affairs is preferred.
  • Strongly prefer experience serving students from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.

Special Notes:

  • This position requires the staff member to live in the provided furnished on-campus apartment.  A meal plan is provided for the employee during the academic year when classes are in session.
