Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness was constructed in 1999 and is one of the premier sports and wellness facilities in the country. The facility serves both the University and Denver communities in providing events, programs, and services that engage and develop people to lead healthy and happy lives.

Position Summary

The Youth Activities Manager is focused on achieving the following results for the Division of Athletics and Recreation:

  • Lead, manage and report upon youth activities programming efforts within the Division of Athletics & Recreation including PASS Camp, School Days Off, Birthday Parties, Field Trips and other programs as assigned. Programming is to be managed to the core values of the Ritchie Center with an emphasis on safety, service, quality, sales, and accountability.
  • Identify, implement and execute new trends and ideas that keep youth activities programs current for the customer to maintain high retention rates and new sales.
  • Build on our already successful.

Essential Functions

Planning

  • Responsible for planning all aspects of youth programming including, but not limited to: facility scheduling, rectrac registration, program and lesson plans, processes, policies and procedures, program evaluation, marketing and sales plans, budget and finance, and forecast and analysis of data.

Safety and Risk Management

  • Responsible for safety and risk management of youth programming including, but not limited to: facility and program inspections, staff certifications and licenses, program certifications and licenses, accident and incident reporting, follow up, program and staffing ratios, and reporting.

Personnel Management

  • Responsible for the personnel management in youth programming including, but not limited to: recruitment, interviewing, hiring, employment verification, orientation, training, in-service, audits, payroll, performance coaching and accountability, and documentation.

Program/Event Execution

  • Responsible for overall administration of youth programs and/events including, but not limited to: website information, customer parking, staffing levels, facility work orders, equipment and supplies, program and event checklists, management presence at programs and events, customer relationships, set-up/breakdown, evaluation/assessment, and developing new program opportunities.

Customer Service

  • Responsible for the customer experience within youth programs and/events including, but not limited to: modeling excellence in all customer interactions, maintain proper uniform/appearance at all times, manage all communication centers to ensure information is accurate and available to internal and external parties, maintain problem solving perspective at all times related to customer service interactions, and address facility and equipment issues using established work order/work request processes.

Professionalism

  • Responsible for professionalism at all times including, but not limited to: communicating effectively and appropriately to all patrons, staff members, potential customers, and colleagues or professional contacts; responding in a timely (within 24 hours) to all follow-up communication (i.e. email and voice mail); and ensuring youth programs activity schedules and individual work schedules are current and communicated.

Other/Job Specific

  • Develop and maintain relationships with DU Varsity coaches, schools and local youth sports organizations for the benefit University of Denver youth programs.
  • Develop successful youth program that assist in developing ticket sales for Varsity Athletic Events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Early Childhood Physical Education and Youth Sport Program knowledge.
  • Systems knowledge in RecTrac or other recreation systems preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood Borne Pathogen; Concussion Training.
  • 2-4 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood Borne Pathogen Instructor.
  • 3-5 years of related experience.

Working Environment

1. Sports and Wellness facility for events, programs and services.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
3. Noise level is quiet to moderate in office space and moderate to high in activity spaces.

Physical Activities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be able to operate work-related equipment; and effectively communicate verbally with customers and employees of the university. The employee must be able to frequently move about the office with capability of transporting files or objects up to 50 pounds.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with evenings and weekends as required.
