The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia is seeking a Research Associate in the lab of Professor George Christ.

The successful candidate will perform in vitro and in vivo rodent studies involving the development, refinement, and use of tissue engineered muscle constructs for the repair of severe skeletal muscle injuries.  Requirements of the position include training students, staff and other junior postdocs; assistance with the development of new methods, models and metrics for physiological measurements of regenerating tissues; assistance with data collection, analysis and reporting; manuscript writing; submission and development of translational research projects; and assistance with grant writing. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or related field or a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree is required by the start date.  A minimum of 1 year of experience in small animal recovery surgery and physiological instrumentation and testing (both in vitro and in vivo); experience in biomaterial characterization, bioreactor design, setup and calibration; tissue engineering principles and regenerative medicine technologies.  Experience with motion capture gait analysis and MatLab is preferred.
