Position Summary

Big Bend Community College invites applications for an Agriculture Program Coordinator. This position is part of the Professional Studies Division and is responsible for the Agriculture programs of study. The position also includes teaching responsibilities and reports to the Dean of Workforce Education.

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is a comprehensive public community college serving a large, rural district in central Washington State. BBCC's main campus is located in the city of Moses Lake (pop. 24,009) in Grant County, situated on the former Larson Air Force Base. In addition to the central campus, BBCC has learning centers in seven outlying communities that provide adult basic education, high school completion, and English Language Learning programs as gateways to college. We are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and we serve approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000.

Essential Job Duties

Primary essential duties and responsibilities include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Lead the planning, design, development, modification, and evaluation of BBCC's Agriculture (AG) programs that seamlessly articulate from K-12 through baccalaureate programs.
  • Research and evaluate instructional technologies for appropriate and innovative applications; work with faculty in developing appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty in design and implementation of effective learning strategies.
  • Advise potential and continuing AG program students.
  • Serve as the Agriculture Student Association (ASA) club advisor.
  • Develop an annual and biannual schedule of AG coursework.
  • Recruit, orient, and mentor part-time/adjunct faculty for the AG program.
  • Create resources/training modules for faculty.
  • Teach and modify AG courses to align with the needs of the local AG industry.
  • Research emerging developments and practices in the industry.
  • Manage a recruitment outreach program to recruit AG program students.
  • Initiate and manage partnerships with industry and governmental entities; connect students with industry professionals and mentors.
  • Grow and maintain AG program advisory committees with members from the AG industry.
  • Facilitate classes, workshops, presentations, and orientations for AG program students and community.
  • Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be required.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Education or Agriculture with emphasis on teaching and/or learning technology or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Agriculture industry experience.
  • Experience working with students/individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Agriculture Education, Agriculture, or Instructional Design from an accredited institution.
  • Agriculture industry experience with a background/experience in agronomy or ag mechanics.
  • Experience teaching at a community college within the previous three years.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current theory and common practices in the trade and the ability to instruct students on these topics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the role of the community college in education.
  • Experience working with non-traditional students.
  • Experience implementing innovative teaching methods such as inverted instruction, coordinated studies, team teaching, active learning, or computer-aided instruction.
  • Able to communicate effectively one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom settings.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
