TheOffice of the Provost has an opening for the position ofDirector of AUB Press , above grade 12. I. Basic Functions:The Director of the AUB Press will be responsible for overseeing the strategic and operational activities of the AUB Press, including strategic planning, editorial direction, operations management, and financial planning. Starting with the current staff of three, the director will carry out the planned expansion of the press with the gradual hiring of additional staff, full time, part-time, and freelance, with additional assistance from student interns. The director will reflect the commitment of both the AUB Press and the university to create a broadly diverse environment necessary to foster multicultural skills and perspectives. This position may be a joint academic appointment. II. Minimum Requirements:
  • At minimum, a Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in academic publishing, preferably in the MENA region.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience with decision-making, administrative and supervisory responsibility in a publishing environment.
  • Ideally, an editorial background that has transitioned into a broader management role.
  • Knowledge of issues and trends in publishing, libraries, scholarly communication, open access, data sharing, and intellectual property.
  • Strong interpersonal, intercultural, managerial, organizational, and communication (both oral and written) skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and consistency.
  • Proven fundraising experience is desired for the conservation and expansion of the Press.
  • Capable of expertly charting a course for the Press that maximizes opportunities and overcomes the challenges of the complex and continuously changing scholarly communication publishing ecosystem.
  • Proven financial and managerial acumen in complex organizational settings, including university press budgeting.
  • Broad awareness of peer review, the publishing process, and related efforts.
  • Ability to work collegially, inspire confidence and trust, and maintain a positive and empowering work culture.
