The Librarian for the Arts and Humanities is directly responsible for supporting and adding value to the education Bucknell students receive. This position serves as a central information resource for faculty and students in the arts and humanities, providing research support and instructional services as well as selecting, organizing and providing access to information in the arts and humanities. The Librarian for the Arts and Humanities is fully engaged with faculty and students providing relevant instruction, outreach and support for scholarship.

The Arts and Humanities Librarian reports to the Director for Research Services and Information Literacy.

Job Duties

• Serves as subject liaison for faculty and students in arts and humanities disciplines and related interdisciplinary programs. Liaison responsibilities include providing specialized instruction, collection development, extended reference, and outreach.
• Works with other Research Services librarians and staff to provide coverage of interdisciplinary areas outside of conventional subject boundaries.
• Teaches information literacy skills in the classroom, using current learning, teaching and information literacy theory and appropriate instructional technology.
• Develops instructional tools for teaching information literacy that can be used in or outside of the classroom.
• Works to increase the understanding and application of digital scholarship/humanities among faculty and students.
• Develops and leads or assists in facilitation of student-focused digital scholarship projects and programs, including but not limited to the Digital Scholarship Summer Research Fellows program.
• Maintains a deep knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in academic library outreach, instruction, information literacy, scholarly communication and information access and actively identifies relevant initiatives for local implementation.
• Actively identifies possible points for technology integration, open educational practices, and/or digital scholarship activities into Research Services programs, instruction, and work.
• Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
• Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities.
• Contributes to Bucknell’s commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• ALA-accredited master’s degree in library/information science
• Knowledge of disciplinary research and inquiry methodologies in the arts and/or humanities
• Demonstrated knowledge of technologies used in digital scholarship
• Ability to set priorities and manage work and deadlines independently
• Ability to analyze data and make local decisions based on national and local trends and to design processes that enhance services while maximizing university resources
• Demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisors
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment
• Proven commitment to service

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional subject area master's degree preferred
• 2 years’ experience in a reference and instruction librarian position
• Demonstrated skill in the use of technologies for digital scholarship
• Experience leading digital scholarship initiatives
