Job Summary

The School of Information Science at the University of Kentucky is currently seeking an Assistant Professor for an academic year appointment, tenure-track position, with responsibilities for teaching, advising, maintaining a personal research program, participating in professional activities, and serving on university committees. This faculty appointment, housed within a tenure track title series, will be part of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) program offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees, housed in the School of Information Science (http://ci.uky.edu/ sis), in conjunction with other faculties within the College of Communication and Information, a member of the iSchool consortium. Candidates will be expected to teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels, both online and face to face. Opportunities exist to work with doctoral students in the College and to shape the evolution of our degree programs.

Teaching responsibilities include one or more areas in information and communication technology, especially databases, multimedia, systems analysis, e-commerce regulation, and other technology-focused courses; teaching experience in these areas strongly preferred. Candidates are also expected to maintain an active research program in one or more areas of ICT included but not limited to Information Systems, Human-Centered Computing, Informatics, and Cybersecurity.

The University of Kentucky is the flagship campus in the state, situated in greater Lexington (population 300,000), in the beautiful Bluegrass region of horse farms and rolling hills. Founded in 1865, UK is a public, research-extensive, land grant institution, ranked among the top U.S. public universities on a number of criteria, with special strength in the health sciences. The School of Information Science is part of the College of Communication and Information, which includes the Department of Communication, School of Journalism and Telecommunications, Department of Integrated Strategic Communication, and Graduate Program in Communication.

Faculty positions are for nine months with possible opportunities for summer teaching. Salaries are competitive with those in other disciplines and commensurate with qualifications and level of appointment.
