This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 06/30/2020, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Under the direction of the Quality Development Manager for Student Health Services, this position serves as the primary resource for access to Protected Health Information (PHI). In addition, this position facilitates the information processing and flow of patient data in and out of medical records through the creation and maintenance of Electronic Health Record (EHR) templates. This position compiles, evaluates, verifies, and integrates patient data into a health record, which documents patients’ histories, health examinations, diagnoses and services for student health center patients. Health records provide data that can be used to enhance healthcare operations and patient care. Incumbent serves as the health information and medical records librarian for paper and electronic files. Incumbent assembles, verifies, and manages the establishment, amendment, retrieval, and storage of paper and/or electronic medical records and health information for student health center patients. This position coordinates the release of Protected Health Information (PHI) to patients and outside entities ensuring adherence to all federal and state regulations and laws.

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,161 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,069 - $5,921 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree or equivalent in an accredited Medical Records program or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

  • Demonstrated skill in effective oral and written communication.
  • One-year experience working in Medical Records/Health Information Management environment.
  • One-year experience working with young adults, preferable in a college student health center setting.
  • One-year experience creating clinical documentation templates.
  • One-year experience working with clinical referrals to specialty.
  • Three years’ experience using an electronic medical record i.e. Medicat.
