Position Title: Reference and Instruction Librarian (One-Year Term Appointment)

Salary: $49,900

Qualifications:

An American Library Association(ALA)-accredited master’s degree is required.
Other requirements include, butare not limited to, the following:
Knowledge of major researchresources used in academic libraries;
Familiarity with informationliteracy standards and frameworks;
Ability to work both independentlyand collaboratively in a collegial environment;
Ability to manage and prioritizeprojects;
Excellent oral, written, andinterpersonal communication skills;
Understanding of trends andtechnologies impacting library services in higher education;
and Commitmentto professional achievement and growth..
Preferred qualifications include instruction experience, academic library experience, teachingor working with under-represented groups, and knowledgeabout emerging technologies.

Duties:

The Reference and InstructionLibrarian should be an energetic, forward-thinking professional whodemonstrates a strong service orientation coupled with an enthusiasm forcreative approaches that will provide a full range of reference services andpromote increased information literacy among students.

Responsibilities include, butare not limited to, the following:
Provides general reference services by helping patrons with their informational andresearch needs at the reference desk, during individual appointments, andonline;
Oversees thecreation and enhancement of online learning objects such as specializedresearch guides and multimedia tutorials in support of library instruction andother library services;
Contributes to thedesign and implementation of library assessment initiatives, especially inreference, instruction, and user experience;
Coordinate librarymarketing efforts, includingmaintaining, promoting, updating,improving, and monitoring various onlinecommunications through website,Primo, social media, and other such public facing online presences;
Provides supervision and mentorship to part-time reference librarians;
Conducts instructional sessions as part of the library’s information literacy programfor the core curriculum;
Monitors reference desk,computer areas, and library classroom for organization, efficiency, andeffectiveness;
Offers liaisonservices to several academic departments, including subject-tailoredinformation literacy instruction, creation of research guides, assistance with collectiondevelopment, and general outreach;
Participates in theselection of new reference materials and researchdatabases for addition to the library’s physical and online collections;
Conducts outreachactivities to faculty and to on- and off-campus organizations, in order topromote library services and educate these groups about effective use oflibrary resources;
and stays currentwith evolving information technologies and how they could be employed toadvance the library’s mission.
