The Dean will oversee the administration of Cedar Creek and Garrett Heyns Corrections Center Education Programs located at the Cedar Creek Correction Center in Littlerock and the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton, in accordance with the College’s mission, goals and objectives and in compliance with the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) and the Department of Corrections (DOC) policies and procedures.Essential Duties Summary
This position reports to the Vice President of Instruction and exercise independent judgment and discretion in the administration of corrections education. The incumbent has direct responsibility for the planning, organizing, scheduling, implementing and evaluating the following day, evening, and outreach instructional programs, courses (curriculum), and educational services:
•Construction Trades Apprenticeship Preparation Program (CTAP)
•Youthful Offender Program (OSPI)
•Reception Diagnostic Center (RDC)
•Washington 45 Academic Core
The position requires substantive knowledge of DOC policies and procedures as well as educational programs offered, including those mandated by the DOC.
Additional responsibilities include:
•Supervision of accurate records and reports in accordance with State and Federal laws and college and DOC policies.
•Development of, recruitment for, and retention of students enrolled in educational programs within the corrections facility in collaboration with DOC and the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC).
•Implementation of Pell Grant funded programs (i.e.2nd Chance Pell) at Cedar Creek Correction Center and potentially at the Garrett Heyns Education Center in coordination with main campus Vice President of Student Services, student services staff, and instructional deans, and faculty.
•Supervision of staff and faculty, scheduling of instructor/staff workload, oversight of quarterly and annual schedule development.
•Budget development and management, contributing to College and instruction strategic planning.
•Providing information on the efficacy of Corrections Education to stakeholders.
•Oversight of extensive and accurate program information that is provided to potential students, the public, representatives of agencies and other educational institutions.
•Researching and writing for external funding (includes implementation and monitoring of outcomes and budget expenditures for any grant projects received).
•Coordinate departmental Advisory Board.
•Maintain vocational certification.
•Provide leadership for the departmental staff and faculty.
•Work as a collaborative team member on the Cedar Creek Executive Leadership Team, WCC executive Leadership Team, Centralia College leadership and committees, and state wide groups.
•Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Instruction.
•A Bachelor’s degree;
•Three years’ experience in a corrections or educational setting; and
•Three years’ administrative experience including supervision, budgeting, and planning.
•A Master’s degree in Education, Management, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field.
•Experience with Washington state community & technical college system and/or Department of Corrections.
•Strong organizational skills.
•Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication and customer service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude and work ethic, even during periods of high activity and stress.
• Bilingual especially in Spanish and English.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of people and values diversity.
• Awareness of own cultural values and biases.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The successful candidate must successfully complete Department of Corrections CORE Training and adhere to all Department of Corrections rules, policies, and procedures.
This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range is $91,300 – $95,605 depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees. The position may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement system.
