Director, Project Management, Design and Construction - Planning & Facilities Management

The Office of Design and Construction provides leadership, knowledge and technical expertise to sustain and support the built environment, delivering client-focused services and solutions to the Georgetown University community, to protect and maximize resources, advancing Georgetown's core mission. We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our team.

All Projects are managed by the Office of Design and Construction to support the university's mission, to provide consistency and efficiency in meeting not only the initial project requirements, but also the long-term institutional goals in support of sound planning principles, the university campus and master plans and documentation archiving of the work performed so that campus drawings are maintained current. Duties of the Director, Project Management include but are not limited to:
  • Manages a technical unit delivering capital project services from initiation through design and construction to close-out and turnover to university colleagues across and beyond campus and operations and maintenance (O&M) personnel.
  • Provides overall leadership, direction and control to project managers who lead teams of consultant architects and engineers, construction managers, contractors, O&M personnel and contracting specialists.
  • Ensures that all aspects of project management are effectively implemented and accomplished such as: project approvals from appropriate government agencies and community interest groups; adherence to established project budgets and schedules; design reviews, onsite inspections to evaluate contractor performance, confirm the satisfactory progression of work, and assure that change order management validates scope of work, justification and pricing.
  • Monitors work of the unit and takes appropriate steps to ensure that activities meet requirements.
  • Works collegially with the assistance of the University Architect to ensure that design standards, project goals and the University mission are documented, reviewed and achieved.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline or Architecture degree; PE Certification highly preferred
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in management of staff, capital projects and contract administration.
  • High level of interpersonal skills required for daily interaction with faculty, students and staff, GU managers, team members and public agency officials.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem solving skills

Fiscal Responsibility
Incumbent and technical staff manage 50-70 projects per year with combined project cost averaging $125M and average annual expenditures of $40M to $50M. Project values range from $50K to $45M and once established, incumbent must assure that project amounts are not exceeded. Projects vary in complexity from construction of medical research labs and multi-building complexes to renovation of residence halls and administration buildings to utility plant upgrades and vary in value from $750K to $200M.
