Description:

The College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS) at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time lecturer position to begin August 1, 2019. The position is for a candidate who will teach in the LPS program on data analytics (https://lpsonline.sas.upenn.edu/academics/certificates/data-analytics). Teaching experience in quantitative methods for the social sciences is required. The candidate will teach three online Data Analytics courses for LPS each semester. The administrative duties for the position include assisting with management of and course development for the online Data Analytics certificate, including helping to recruit and train the course assistants. This one-year appointment is eligible for reappointment for up to an additional two years, based on an annual performance review and approval of the Dean.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree or comparable work-related experience; experience teaching statistics and data analytics to a broad, non-expert population; ability to translate quantitative findings into substantive conclusions; extensive experience using the R statistical computing language (https://www.r-project.org), including teaching experience involving the Tidyverse (https://www.tidyverse.org) and the Shiny web application system (https://shiny.rstudio.com). Experience teaching online or hybrid classes and familiarity with LMS platforms such as Canvas, Coursera, Smart Sparrow as well as technologies used to engage students in the online environment, such as VoiceThread. Familiarity with methods of instructional evaluation and assessment; excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
