Angelo State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Accounting at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. This position is a full-time, nine-month position and would start in Fall of 2019, although an earlier start date is possible.

About the University
Angelo State University is located in San Angelo, Texas, a city of just over 100,000 people located in the heart of West Texas. A proud member of the Texas Tech University System, Angelo State has been designated an Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and has an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students. Angelo State is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools—Commission on Colleges. In addition, Angelo State is proud to have one of the nation’s largest privately funded scholarship programs (Carr Foundation), supported by an endowment of over $130 million. For the ninth consecutive year, Angelo State has been recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education. This designation is awarded only to about 15% of the nation’s more than 2,500 four-year colleges. In 2017, for the third consecutive year, the Chronicle of Higher Education named Angelo State a “Great College to Work For.” In addition to being one of only 79 institutions recognized by the Chronicle, Angelo State was one of only 42 institutions that were named to 2017 Chronicle’s Honor Roll.

About the Norris-Vincent College of Business
The College of Business at Angelo State University was recently renamed as the Norris-Vincent College of Business. This renaming was to honor a multimillion-dollar gift by Lloyd Norris and Blake and Brian Vincent. This gift represents a significant commitment on the part of the donors to support and fund the educational programs of the College as it continues to provide high quality education for the citizens of the State of Texas and beyond. In addition, the gift also will provide for faculty and student development as the College rapidly moves toward AACSB accreditation. There are three departments in the College: Accounting, Economics, and Finance; Management and Marketing; and Aerospace Studies, which houses an award-winning Air Force ROTC detachment. In addition, the College is also the home for the ASU Small Business Development Center and the Center for Student Success, which provides advising and career services for all business students. The College has approximately 1,000 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students, awarding approximately 160 undergraduate and 50 graduate degrees each year. There are approximately 25 full time faculty, 12 part-time faculty, and 15 full time staff in the College.

About the Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance
The Department offers the Bachelor of Business Administration degree with majors in Accounting and Finance. The Department also offers a Master of Professional Accountancy which is designed to satisfy the requirements in the State of Texas to sit for the CPA exam. The Department has approximately 275 students, 11 full time faculty members and one full time staff member.

Typical Duties/Job Duties

Effective teaching, service and publication in refereed journals is required for tenure, consistent with the policies of the Norris-Vincent College of Business and Angelo State University. An appointment at the Associate Professor or higher level requires a proven record of excellence in teaching and peer-reviewed publication. All candidates are expected to be considered a Scholarly Academic (SA) at the time of initial appointment and to maintain that status in accordance with Angelo State University’s Norris-Vincent College of Business Faculty Qualifications Guidelines. Salary and benefits for this position are competitive and will depend on individual candidate qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Effective teaching record, and willingness to teach both online and face-to-face

Excellent written and oral English communication skills

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate in accounting or a closely related field (ABD’s will be considered)

Scholarly Academic (SA) status at time of appointment

Record of, or potential for, scholarly research and publications

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, it is preferred that the candidate have an ability/willingness to teach in one or more of the following areas:
Advanced, Not for Profit and Accounting Theory; Accounting Information Systems; Managerial/Cost Accounting

Professional certification (CPA, CMA, CIA, etc.)
