The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia invites candidates who wish to work in the research group of Professor Donald F Hunt as a Research Associate for the 4-month period, September 1 – December 31, 2019.

The incumbent will perform research to develop a collection of mass spectrometry technologies that will make it possible to read the complete amino acid sequence of proteins (forwards and backwards) on a chromatographic time scale at the femtomole level and to also characterize multiple posttranslational modifications that exist on the same protein molecule and together regulate its biological activity.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a related discipline is required by the start date. Also required is three or more years of research experience on the development of new reagents for electron transfer dissociation (ETD) and IIPT (ion-ion proton transfer) techniques on Thermo Scientific mass spectrometers.  Also required is at least three years of research experience to optimize wave forms and reagents for parallel ion parking (PIP) technology.
