Working TitleVisiting Professor of Education (Middle Grades)Job Summary

The Savannah State University College of Education seeks qualified applicants for a full-time visiting professor of education for the 2019-2020 academic year in in the Department of Teacher Education teaching primarily in the Middle Grades Education program. The position will begin on August 1, 2019. Based on the applicants’ certification and graduate study areas responsibilities will include teaching Middle Grades (4-8) courses in English/language arts and reading and in history/social studies at the undergraduate level, supervising field experiences, recruiting and mentoring education students, and providing service to the College of Education in the development of an elementary education program. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in education and certification in elementary education with additional certifications and/or coursework at the graduate level focused on one or more of the content areas listed. The applicant should have a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in K12 public or private schools preferably in the upper elementary or middle grades; proficiency using technology in instruction and assessment. Background and/or credit check will be required.

Preferred Qualifications

An earned doctorate in education and/or multiple earned teaching certifications, particularly in reading and/or special education with evidence of successful teaching at the college and/or university level; experience teaching in an online learning system.
