The School of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for an open rank tenure-track faculty position beginning fall 2020. Appointment type is also open, meaning we will determine whether this is a 9 month or a 12 month appointment as we near completion of the recruitment process. Final rank and title will be commensurate with education and experience. Final appointment type will be dependent upon the candidate’s area of expertise and the curricular needs of the department. Candidates with content and research expertise in health care, clinical social work, mental health, and addictions are invited to apply. Applicants must have the capacity to propose, receive, and conduct externally-funded research that is interdisciplinary and translational. Experience with innovative academic delivery systems, including online instructional technology is desirable. The School of Social Work offers a pre-social work program, the BSW and MSW degrees, and two online programs: a BSW Program and a Masters in Health Administration to more than 500 students. The MSW program is the second largest master degree program at UC. There are 17 full time faculty that comprise a highly supportive, collegial, friendly, and progressive academic culture. There are special opportunities in Child Welfare IV-E; a robust study abroad program at the BSW and MSW levels; and School Social Worker certification at the MSW level. Candidates with an interdisciplinary perspective whose research focuses on health, mental health, aging, gerontology, clinical social work, veterans, diversity, and addictions that aims to ameliorate disparities of at-risk and vulnerable populations are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates dedicated to research, teaching and service who can teach direct practice courses.

The School of Social Work is part of the College of Allied Health Sciences, which offers a wide range of opportunities for interdisciplinary research and teaching. Faculty members pursue collaborative research and teaching with faculty from nutrition, communication sciences and disorders, occupational and physical therapy.

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in social work, social welfare, or a similar field
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree
  • Minimum of two years post-MSW practice experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate students
  • A clearly defined plan of research, scholarly publications, and external funding are expected
