Job Summary

The Executive Director of Career and Professional Development leads the Chase Career Center and oversees the implementation of an effective program of career development for the Isenberg School of Management. This includes developing strategies to improve the range of career development services and expand the portfolio of employer relationships while maintaining those already in existence. The Executive Director will serve the needs of all on-campus academic programs at the undergraduate and Master’s levels. Further, the Executive Director will work with relevant constituencies to develop and implement a plan to serve the career and professional development needs of the Isenberg School’s increasingly large on-line student populations.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision and plan for the Isenberg School's career development area, for both undergraduate and Master's students.
    • Work directly with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs to identify strategic priorities for career development services.
    • Engage Chase Career Center staff, Isenberg School faculty, the Associate Dean for Graduate and Professional Programs, and other relevant constituents in developing a plan to meet identified priorities.
    • Monitor progress toward meeting priorities. Review and revise the strategic plan as necessary.
    • In conjunction with the Associate Dean, establish measurable goals for internships and career placement, and regularly assess performance in relation to these goals.
  • Develop, design and deliver effective career related programs for students.
    • Organize and develop the Chase Career Center staff to enhance the scope and reach of career development efforts for full and part-time students in both the undergraduate and Master's programs offered at both the Amherst and Mt. Ida campuses.
    • Oversee and enhance specific career counseling activities to satisfy the diverse needs of undergraduate and Master's students, capitalizing on synergies across programs.
    • Maintain, develop, and expand the portfolio of experiential learning opportunities both within Isenberg and through strategic partnerships with other campus units.
    • Work with Isenberg’s academic departments to incorporate credit-bearing internships and experiential learning opportunities into the curriculum.
    • Identify strategic partnerships with other units on campus and within the Five College community to leverage existing resources and opportunities.
    • Maintain primary responsibility for developing and implementing a comprehensive career development program for MBA students, including career counseling and career-related workshops and seminars.
    • Identify and implement strategies to meet the career development needs of online students.
  • Expand internship and placement opportunities by managing and maintaining existing relationships with employers while creating connections with a diverse group of potential new employers.
    • Assume primary responsibility for developing an aggressive strategy to identify and attract new employers.
    • Oversee the management of existing employer relationships, focusing on increasing the visibility of the Isenberg School and its various programs with these employers.
    • Implement a plan to increase interaction, both on campus and on-site, with current and potential employers.
    • Work in conjunction with the Isenberg School Development Office and other relevant campus offices to cultivate alumni relationships.
  • Support the Isenberg School's strategic objectives through active participation in internal planning processes and external marketing efforts.
    • Work with the Associate Deans and faculty to enhance the reputation and ranking of the Isenberg School through aggressive marketing and relationship development.
    • Develop productive relationships with faculty members and alumni of the Isenberg School, including implementing and maintaining mechanisms for frequent interaction and input on career service issues.
    • Represent the Isenberg School by playing an active and visible role at appropriate regional and national forums for university career service professionals.
  • Provide programmatic supervision of the Chase Career Center.
    • Supervise the day-to-day activities of the Chase Career Center, including budget review and staff oversight.
    • Oversee and encourage the professional development of Chase Career Center staff, maintaining and enhancing the Center's ability to respond proactively to the needs of a diverse student population.
    • Utilize technology and systems to support the operation of the Chase Career Center, especially in relation to outreach to students and employers, and data collection and analysis.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Master's degree in Management, Counseling or a related field.
  • Five years of progressive administrative experience in higher education career development.
  • Demonstrated success in developing innovative career development services.
  • Strong evidence of prior responsibility in program leadership and staff management.
  • Proven ability to use quantitative, analytical methods to to assess programs.
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret financial and non-financial data.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and prospective employers.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and effectively management time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • M-F 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. Required to work some nights and weekends.

Salary Information

PSU Level 31 associated with pay grade Level 35

PSU Salary Schedule

Salary commensurate with skills and experience.
