Essential Job Duties

The Department of Health and Exercise Studies (HES) seeks applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor to begin in the Fall 2020 semester. The successful candidate will possess strong teaching and evaluation skills with an interest in physical fitness. This position will teach an estimated eight credit hours per semester with a focus on health and fitness-related classes in the 100-level course offerings. Additional responsibilities will include equipment planning and procurement for areas of expertise, in addition to departmental and university committee participation.

Successful/on-campus interviewees will be expected to submit 3 letters of reference.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Teaching courses from physical fitness/skills courses will be the main focus. There may be an opportunity to teach in the Coaching Education minor curriculum, as scheduling allows. Presenting at multiple professional workshops, clinics, conferences, or conventions appropriate to the area of expertise during the appointment is expected at the Assistant Teaching Professor level.

Minimum Education/Experience

Requires a master’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience for Lecturer. Degree must be completed prior to August 2020.

Requires a doctor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field, a terminal degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience for Assistant Teaching Professor. Degree must be completed prior to August 2020.

Departmental Required Skills

Candidates must have expertise in teaching several of the following health/fitness courses. Examples include: fitness (aerobics, water aerobics, weight training, running), somatics (yoga, Pilates), racquet sports, gymnastics, aquatics (scuba, lifeguard training, swim instruction), martial arts, archery, and team sports such as soccer, ultimate frisbee, flag football, softball, and others.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Doctorate in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field, or equivalent degree or equivalent. PMA Certified Teacher (or equivalent) or RYT 200 (or above) certifications are preferred. Experience teaching at the college or university level is preferred.

Required License or Certification

Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required and must be maintained.
