The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree in biology with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in discipline. The candidate will have excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communications skills, as well as basic computer literacy, and be able to teach evenings and possibly weekends.

Must be able to demonstrate the Morton College core values of compassion, fairness, respect, responsibility, tolerance and truth.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching general biology and anatomy and physiology courses at the college level. Ph.D. or equivalent in biology or closely related field. Academic preparation and teaching experience in all levels of biology. Ability to teach in an additional discipline. Community college teaching experience. Cadaver and lab teaching experience. Experience working with culturally diverse students and ability to use technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Job Summary

The biology instructor will teach biology courses to a diverse student population. The candidate will participate on faculty committees and perform other duties related to teaching at a community college. The instructor must stay abreast of ongoing developments, trends, and issues in instruction in the community college environment. The responsibilities and duties of the instructor may change as the needs of the college arise.

Specific Job Duties

•Instruct students in content and skills related to the assigned courses
•Consider the needs of the students, and assist them by seeking help from other college services.
•Distribute to all students a course syllabus that covers the class requirements, grading procedure, attendance requirements, and course objectives.
•Inform students of educational and occupational opportunities.
•Assist the Associate Provost and other administrators in the development of curriculum, by preparing outlines and selecting textbooks.
•Submit midterm and final grade reports, deficiency notices, attendance records and any other reports pertaining to the assigned courses.
•Participate on college committee(s).
•Participate in academic advising.
•Stay abreast of ongoing developments, trends and issues in the (biology) instruction at the community college level.
•Develop an annual professional development plan.
•Make minor lab equipment repairs and aid in the cleaning and organizing laboratories.
•Prepare labs.
•Assist in lab preparation for multiple lab sections, order and purchase lab supplies.
•Create and maintain a safe environment for laboratory instruction.
•Submit courses to the curriculum committee and for articulation.
