The Center for Lighting Enabled Systems & Applications, a research center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY is hiring a Research Technician. The Research Technician is responsible for environmental data logging and management, media preparation, laboratory and equipment maintenance as well as installation, operation and characterization of a wide variety of light fixtures. Minimum Qualifications

•Associate’s degree in a related field
•2 years experience working in horticulture and plant research

OR

•Bachelor’s degree in related field

Preferred Qualifications

•Horticulture or greenhouse experience
•Experience installing electronics and light fixtures
•Programming, embedded systems and electrical engineering experience

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•Computer literacy, including ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data
•Ability to collect and record data using appropriate field specific systems, equipment and techniques
•Ability to present statistical data in a clear, concise manner
•Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records
•Ability to understand and follow directions; must be able to work closely with others
•Analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills
•Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
•Knowledge of and ability to pay strict attention to research protocol

The Research Technician maintains the plant research laboratory including controlled environment growth chambers and a sole source hydroponic unit. Research support responsibilities include: environmental data logging and management, media preparation, laboratory and equipment maintenance, ordering and inventory of laboratory supplies, installation, operation and characterization of a wide variety of light fixtures, growing a wide variety of crop species and participation in physiological research.
