Basic Function

Associate Director of Program Planning and Initiatives is responsible for supporting and developing strategies for growth and advancement of the Office of International Education. The Associate Director is responsible for negotiating service contracts for program implementation, facilitating compliance with U.S. immigration policies and regulations; and serving as a liaison with appropriate U.S. and international sponsors and agencies. The Associate Director will work with national, regional and local professional associations and organizations involved in study abroad programs and exchanges. She/he will work closely with the Associate Vice President of International Education and Sponsored Programs in supporting NOVA’s strategic plan for the Office of International Students and Sponsored Programs. The Associate Director is expected to work with minimal supervision.

The Associate Director reports to the Associate Vice President for International Education and Sponsored Programs who is responsible for leading all NOVA’s professional staff in international programs and service goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

•Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the operations of the Office of Program Planning and Initiatives.
•Supervise and develop education abroad policies and programs.
•Supervise new sponsored initiatives.
•Ensure compliance with all federal regulations related to sponsored initiative.
•Build relationships with numerous internal and external stakeholders that supports. NOVA’s international strategic plan.
•Responsible for staying well-informed of global and regional educational trends and issues that continue to advance the place of NOVA in areas of international education.
•Build cooperative relationships with complex organizations and associations involved with large scale student exchange programs and international activities.
•Strengthen national community college consortium programs that support. international programming efforts.
•Develop fee based international educational projects.
•In conjunction with appropriate college units responsible for NOVA student success and retention policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree, preferably in a field related to the position; Experience in project management and international exchange programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Several years of experience working in a community college setting; several years of experience working with large non-profit organizations involved in international exchange programs and/or education abroad.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Qualified candidates must possess knowledge and understanding of federal regulations related to sponsored programs. Qualified candidates must have knowledge about community colleges and overall trends in education abroad. Qualified candidates should have highly developed problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills with excellent communication and organizational skills and be able to work independently.
