The STARS (Student Technology And Research Support) Assistant provides a first point of contact for technological and research-related support issues on campus. The STARS Assistant is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, and technical support on all core supported products (MS Office, Google Apps, Canvas, wireless connections). The STARS Assistant will answer phone calls and web chats at the desk and assist patrons with a variety of Academic Commons, research, and technology-related questions. Desk Assistants will also help support events and classes in the various library spaces, and regularly audit library technology and spaces.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide effective support from the start of interaction to completion by answering the patron’s question, or referring them to the appropriate resource.
- Log all interactions (calls and walk-ins) in the interaction tracking system.
- Route issues to appropriate support level or department
- Provide just in time assistance to patrons in any of the library computer labs, conference rooms, and/or classrooms.
- Set up library events for academic and/or staff events as designated.
- Conduct regular audits of library technology and spaces to ensure things are in proper working order.
- Assist patrons with basic research and technology tasks.
- Help patrons find the appropriate Academic Commons resources and services for their needs.

Qualifications/Special Skills Required

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Any related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficient in computer skills – Email, Microsoft Office, Google Apps
Desired – knowledge of both Mac and PC operating systems.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Have a solid customer focused outlook, pleasant demeanor and have the ability to be flexible in unexpected situations.
- Be able to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Be able to promptly respond to the patron in need either face to face, over the phone, or via web chat.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized.
- Experience with hardware and software issues.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.
On-the-job training will be provided.

Physical Requirements

Perform light lifting up to 25lbs.
