Ability to learn extensive requirements, policies, and procedures, along with excellent organizational and time management skills are required. Excellent interpersonal, speaking, writing, and computer skills are essential. Candidate must be willing to work with a diverse student population on a one-on-one basis and in small groups. The candidate must work well on a team and be willing to work occasional weekend and evening hours.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and a commitment to detail-oriented accuracy are required.
- Knowledge of college level student services is required
- An earned Master’s Degree
- Previous experience in academic advising or counseling, preferably in higher education
- Working knowledge of Banner and DegreeWorks
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with reasonable accommodation.

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.
Position Requires a Criminal Background Check.

Job DutyAdvise students with regards to their educational, career, personal and social development, including clarifying academic policies and rules, college/university degree requirements, and refer students to academic and personal resources as appropriate. Assist students with registration and orientation to VSU; evaluating and maintaining student records; tracking the progress of specific populations, including students on probation.

Job DutyThe advisor will facilitate programs that help students explore career and post-bachelor’s degree options. Assist students in the transition from high school to college and provide appropriate referral to University offices and resources as needed. Work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators, and provide a positive environment for students served by the Center. The advisor will work closely with fellow advising center staff, faculty, staff, and student support services to meet student needs.

Job DutyThe advisor will monitor academic progress (i.e. track persistence and academic success). Provide developmental programming focused on student academic needs. Work closely with the Director to assist in program development and implementation of strategic initiatives. The advisor may participate in teaching/assisting with FLC groups.

Job DutyAdvise, monitor, and work closely with students on academic probation and those returning from academic suspension by helping them identify and overcome obstacles to their academic success and assist in the development of a retention plan for students.
