Job Description

The Business Manager directly supervises two business administrators (B) and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to an additional five financial coordinators imbedded within each of the division’s offices  The business manager provides necessary training, support, coaching, developmental opportunities and oversite to assure that best practices are followed and that the processing is accurate. Create and implement new and improved financial processes to increase efficiency and enhance standardization across the all departments. Work closely with directors to outline action plans when performance management is required for dotted line reports. 

The Business Manager works closely with the Vice Dean of the MBA Program, directors, managers, financial coordinators, and the Business Administrator to prepare the division's budgets. The Business Manager prepares and summarizes budget, tracks changes and updates forecasts using Hyperion, Business Objects/Webi, Ben Financials, Excel and other financial tools.

The Business Manager works with the Vice Dean of the MBA Program, the Vice Dean of the MBA for Executive Program, directors and managers in the Graduate Division and F&A to assure all financial operations and decisions adhere to university policy and provides financial models, spending and trend analysis, budget variance reporting, and prioritizing recommendations for the division's planning decisions and recommendations for cost efficiencies. Engage with F&A to define travel policies that are less straightforward for the department travelers.

The division looks to the Business Manager to provide financial analysis and input into the strategic decisions of the division. The Business Manager oversees processes such as payroll, travel expense, and purchasing cards and provides auditable, streamlined processing. Work closely with F&A on audits to define and identify process deficiencies. Design and implement process changes to mitigate risks and adhere to auditors’ expectations.

The Business Manager prepares and submits to the school's Office of Finance and Administration the annual operating budget, additional funds requests, projections, annual tax and year-end closing reports
 

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with 5-7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Previous budgeting and forecasting experience. Ability to multi-task. Strong accounting skills and knowledge of Penn's financial systems a plus.
