Job Description:


The State University of New York at Fredonia seeks qualified instructors to teach non-credit ESL courses on an as-needed basis, consistent with the needs of the ESL and International Pathway programs. The ESL and International Pathway programs operate year-round with opportunities to teach short-term visiting programs (2-4 weeks) as well as full semester courses over three terms: August-December, January-May, May-August.


Reporting to the Academic Coordinator, ESL and International Pathway programs, the Part-time ESL Instructor will:


  • Plan engaging lessons using the designed ESL curriculum and learning outcomes to support the improvement of English language proficiency of international ESL learners
  • Teach assigned courses and assess learning
  • Attend planned professional development sessions with colleagues and others to continually share and improve on teaching methods
  • Provide appropriate and timely assessment and attendance data
  • Hold scheduled office hours for one-on-one student tutoring, as needed
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies
  • Contribute to a positive and academic atmosphere for ESL learners and international students to feel safe, welcomed, and supported.


Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of two years paid teaching experience with ESL learners
  • Excellent interpersonal and cultural sensitivity skills and demonstrated commitment to diversity and the needs of diverse student, faculty, staff, and Fredonia community

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Demonstrated successful use of standard classroom teaching technology
  • Master's degree in TESOL or related field
  • Minimum 120 hours in TESOL certification
  • DELTA or CELTA certificate
