JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Advanced Casting Research Center at Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applications for a postdoctoral research position. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or closely related and a proven track record within their field. The position is for a project that requires extensive experience with FEA and a good understanding of materials processing. It also requires the candidate to be able to work both independently and collaboratively, and to develop novel experimental tools, to attack cutting edge manufacturing problems. The successful candidate will work on a project that incorporates the latest advancements in non-destructive testing and casting simulation to enhance the design of cast components. Local material properties will be combined with CT data to allow for better and more efficient design of castings. The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal of one additional year, subject to satisfactory performance.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Requirements:

• Ph.D. or M.D. in biochemistry, metabolism, physiology, immunology, nutritional sciences or related fields.
• Proven academic publication track record, including first-authored publications.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines.
• Ability to act independently in the performance of everyday tasks and responsibilities and work well in teams.
• Excellent scientific, written communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Extensive FEA experience
• Experience with non-destructive testing (computerized tomography, x-ray)
• Experience with materials testing and characterization
• Knowledge of state-of-art casting processes
