Instructor of Music (Studio Percussion)

Winthrop University, a highly ranked, public, comprehensive university, announces a national search for a faculty position in Music (Studio Percussion). This is a 9-month, full-time, one-year appointment in the Department of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Salary is dependent upon qualifications. This position requires daily contact with students, faculty, and staff on campus. Additionally, the successful candidate may be expected to be available evenings and some weekends as rehearsals and performances require. Candidates should have the desire to lead and teach in an interdisciplinary, diverse, and highly collaborative undergraduate environment.   • Teach courses in all percussion areas.
  • Participate in an active schedule of on- and off-campus performances, master classes, etc.
  • Assume other responsibilities according to departmental needs and candidate’s qualifications.


  • DMA; DMA-ABD; or Masters degree with post-secondary teaching experience. 
  • Exceptional skills as a performer and teacher.
  • Performance experience in a wide range of percussion settings, including, but not limited to: orchestral, band, jazz, and non-Western.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of proven success working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience in working with diverse student populations.

About the College of Visual and Performing Arts
Winthrop University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) is the academic home to approximately 700 undergraduate students majoring in dance, design, studio arts, music, and theatre, and approximately 35 graduate students.
