Duke University School of Law Office of Communications Manager, Strategic Communications (Job Code 1268; Public Relations Specialist Sr., Level 12) Occupational Summary The Strategic Communications Manager leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of plans to use social and digital media platforms to build Duke Law School’s reputation among external audiences. This person will be responsible for creating and executing a social media and digital advertising strategy to support the Law School’s communications goals, overseeing the Law School’s daily activity and engagement on social media platforms, initiating and managing campaigns that target audiences via paid social and search engine messages, and advising faculty and staff on social media and digital advertising usage, policies, and best practices. Work Performed •Develop and implement an integrated social media and digital advertising strategy based on the Law School’s communications objectives and priorities, and update and revise as conditions change •Collaborate with other members of Communications team to integrate social media and digital advertising into the department’s strategies and support marketing, media relations, and editorial objectives •Provide strategic communications support to faculty to promote their scholarship, teaching, and expertise, including advising on creative and effective use of social media and digital advertising •Advise the dean and administration on effective use of social media and digitaladvertising and support independent social media and digital advertising efforts of staff departments, research centers, clinics, and other Law School entities, including with training and mentorship •Develop and manage digital advertising campaigns to support student recruitment, fundraising, and other initiatives, use SEO techniques to boost effectiveness, and track and analyze results to inform performance improvements •Monitor the reach and engagement of the Law School’s communications channels, including social media, digital advertising, website activity, and media relations; assess results on an ongoing basis to ensure progress and continued prioritization of strategic goals and brainstorm new and creative methods for increasing performance. •Lead the development of social media and digital advertising standards, policies, and rules of engagement, and provide training and mentorship to ensure awareness and adherence by the Law School community and overall consistency of approach •Evaluate emerging social platforms and digital advertising applications and provide thought leadership and perspective for adoption by the Law School and members of the Law School community Required Qualifications at this Level Education/Training:Work requires the ability to perform creative writing and related activities such as conducting interviews and research, and copy editing normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or a related discipline. Experience: Workrequires two years of directly related writing experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Preferred Qualifications 5 to 7 years of experience in a strategic communications role for a university, non-profit organization, or business that required developing and implementing social media and digital advertising strategies Experience developing, executing, and monitoring paid social media and search advertising campaigns Experience using Google Analytics and related analytical tools to monitor and report on website traffic, social media activity and engagement, and search engine optimization Experience in a graduate or professional school or similar organization that required working with experts to promote research or scholarship on complex subject matter Intellectual agility and curiosity and demonstrated interest in legal issues, the legal profession, or legal education Ability to work effectively and supportively in a diverse and inclusive environment that includes faculty, staff, students, and alumni
