Lab Manager, Language Science

The Department of Language Science in the School of Social Sciences at UC Irvine is seeking a motivated, experienced Lab Manager with working knowledge of standard experimental procedures to provide support for the Bilingualism, Mind, and Brain Lab, which conducts research on the cognitive and brain basis of second language learning and bilingualism. As a member of the School of Social Sciences, the incumbent is tasked with upholding and exemplifying excellence in the University's core competencies-- job mastery, goal accomplishment, enterprise contribution and innovation-- while representing the Principal Investigator (PI) and the School of Social Sciences to members of the campus, UC system and the community at large. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Lab Manager works with undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral researchers on projects that examine the cognitive basis of language learning and language use, including a grant funded project on the earliest stages of second language learning in adults.

Duties include managing and leading research projects in the lab: designing studies, creating stimuli, recruiting participants, testing adults, coding audio files, data entry, analyzing data, and participating in the final synthesis of research for publication. The position also involves administrative duties, such as interviewing, hiring, training, and scheduling undergraduate volunteers, managing participant recruitment, purchasing equipment, and planning lab events and meetings. Individuals in this position are encouraged to contribute to conference and manuscript submissions.

This is an ideal position for someone with a bachelor's degree in psychology, linguistics, cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, or a related field.

Salary: Hourly $21.26
Total Hours: 8-5, M-F
Career Position.
Ability to occasionally work on an evening or weekend to assist in the recruitment of experimental participants and gathering experimental data.
